I’m excited, frightened by Plateau residents expectations: Mutfwang

The governor-elect of Plateau, Caleb Mutfwang, says he’s victory at the just concluded governorship election comes with mixed feelings of excitement and fright.
Mr Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made this revelation on Tuesday in an appreciation video posted on his official Twitter page.
“Thank you. Honestly, I am on one hand excited by the excitement my election has generated amongst the people of Plateau state. On the other hand, I am frightened by the expectations of the people. It makes me feel the burden of the responsibility that is being bestowed upon me,” he said.
Mr Mutfwang, a former Chairman of Mangu Local Government Area in Plateau, further assured the people of his dedication to serving them to the best of ability.
“I haven’t seen this kind of excitement on the Plateau in the seven years or thereabout. It is truly heartwarming to see that hope is being restored in people’s minds, and I want to thank God for the privilege to become the catalyst for this hope.
“And I think that the expectations in the minds of the people is that a new dawn has come and I am quite humbled to be the captain of this new dawn,” he added.
Mr Mutfwang’s victory was received with widespread celebrations in Jos, the Plateau capital, and its environs.
Peoples Gazette reported how residents of the state gathered in their thousands to express their excitement over the victory.
Mr Mutfwang secured 525,299 votes to beat his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, who polled 481,300 votes in a heavily contested election on March 18.
Mr Yilwatda has, however, rejected the final results of the election and has vowed to contest it in court.
“We can’t lose the battle and the war at the same time,” the APC candidate declared to his supporters on Monday.
