Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor of Ondo, has been announced as the “acting governor” of the state.

Mr Aiyedatiwa was announced on Monday.

The announcement came as the incumbent governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, proceeded on an annual leave for 15 days.

Richard Olatunde, spokesman for Mr Akeredolu, announced in a release obtained by Peoples Gazette in Akure.

“Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, on Monday handed over power to his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in an acting capacity.

“The development comes on the heels of Governor Akeredolu’s commencement of a 15 – working day vacation starting from Monday, April 3, 2023,” an excerpt in Mr Olatunde’s release stated.

He said the leave was the governor’s first installment of his 2023 annual leave.

According to him, a letter had been transmitted to the State House of Assembly notifying the parliamentarians of the governor’s annual leave.

Mr Olatunde explained that the letter was addressed to the Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun, informing him that the leave would start from Monday, 3rd, to Tuesday, 25th April 2023, both days inclusive.

He added that while Akeredolu is away on vacation, his deputy, Mr Aiyedatiwa, is expected to perform the “functions of the office of the Governor.

“The Governor will resume duties on Wednesday, 26th April 2023,” he added in the release.
