Chelsea are expected to reappoint former club’s captain and manager Frank Lampard as their new caretaker manager until the end of the Premier League season.

Multiple sources, including renowned sports journalist Fabrizio Romano and UK-based outlet Sky Sports, have confirmed that the former England international already has an agreement with Chelsea to return on an interim basis.

The 44-year-old will take over from Bruno Saltor, who was appointed as interim manager following the dismissal of Graham Potter last week as the Blues continue their search for a permanent replacement for next season.

The duo of Bayern Munich former managers Julian Nagelsmann and Hansi Flick, Spain’s national team manager Luis Enrique and former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino are among the names considered.

It would be a return for Lampard as manager at Stamford since the club sacked him in January 2021 when Chelsea host Wolves in their next Premier League on Saturday.
