Northern youths want Barau Jibril as Senate president

The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has appealed to the incoming 10th Senate to zone the Senate president to the North-West, pointing to Barau Jibril as the right candidate.
The appeal was made in a statement issued Sunday in Kaduna by Isah Abubakar, NYCN president. He explained that the council’s call came when political stakeholders were jostling for leadership positions.
“It is expected that the APC leadership will take into consideration the various interests and aspirations of its members as it makes decisions on zoning and leadership positions,” he said.
Appealing to the APC to zone the Senate presidency to the North-West, Mr Abubakar called on other senators-elect to support Mr Jibril, from Kano, to emerge as the nation’s number three citizen.
According to him, Jibril’s wealth of experience and track record made him the perfect choice for the position.
“We believe that Jibril’s leadership qualities and commitment to the development of Nigeria will enable him to effectively steer the affairs of the Senate,” he said.
Mr Abubakar said that zoning the senate presidency to the North-West would promote equity and fairness but also help to strengthen the party’s support base in that region. He described Jibrin as a seasoned, experienced lawmaker committed to the nation’s development.
“We believe he will make an excellent senate president, and we urge all senators-elect to support his candidacy,” said the statement.
Mr Abubakar urged the APC to consider the political and economic importance of the North-West region in Nigeria’s political landscape.
