KEDCO apologises to customers in Kano, others over erratic power supply

The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has tendered an unreserved apology to its esteemed customers over epileptic power supply being experienced in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.
The apology is contained in a statement issued by the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Sani Bala Sani, on Friday in Kano.
Mr Sani said the management deeply regrets the situation due to low allocation of megawatts to KEDCO for distribution from the National Control Centre (NCC).
KEDCO cited a situation where it now gets an allocation of 140MW against the initial 280MW, a shortfall of 140MW, which is grossly inadequate to go round all its customers sufficiently in the three affected states.
“Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Plc (KEDCO) hereby apologises to its esteemed customers across its entire franchise states of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa for the recent shortage in electricity supply.
“This is largely due to low allocation of megawatts to KEDCO, for distribution.
“Against an average of 280MW load allocation, KEDCO now receives an average of 140MW, a shortfall of 140MW, which is grossly inadequate to go round all our customers sufficiently.
“We are only responsible for distributing what is allocated to us by the National Control Centre (NCC) which has been constantly reviewed downwards and this has been responsible for the shortage of power supply to our customers,” the statement read in part.
It, however, said: “We assure our valued customers that we are engaging all necessary stakeholders to find a lasting solution that will facilitate improved electricity supply to our customers.
“Therefore, we are optimistic and confident that supply situation will improve as soon as possible.
“We strongly appeal to our customers to be patient with us, while we engage and resolve the bottlenecks with the relevant stakeholders in the electricity value chain,” KEDCO said.
