NPA launches investigation into Apapa counterfeit e-call-ups

The Nigerian Ports Authority says it is investigating cases of counterfeit of its e-call-ups in circulation.
“We are currently investigating some cases where truck drivers were caught with counterfeited e-call-up slips in order to by-pass security and officials saddled with the responsibility, but we are on top of the situation.
“We will beat them to their game.
“This was the major factor responsible for the initial confusion on the major road within the first week of commencement of the e-call-up system.
“We are determined to checkmate the illicit act,” NPA said on its official Twitter page on Thursday.
On Monday, Peoples Gazette reported the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala-Usman’s frustration about the Apapa port’s perennial congestion.
She had, on Sunday, told ThisDay that the NPA would checkmate the situation with its launch of the e-call-up system that will regulate the movement of trucks in and outside of the port.
Expressing her frustration in an interview with ThisDay, she stated, “The NCS also reference that the scanners are not off the shelf.
“They are manufactured specifically for their requirement, and the approval was given when Kemi Adeosun was the minister of finance. I remember the meetings we had with Kemi (Adeosun) as minister of finance (she resigned in 2018).
“This was how many years ago? They still have not acquired the scanners. She submitted that memo to FEC for approval, and in 2021 the scanners have not been delivered. I have been pushing Col. Ahmed Alli, and they say it will be ready this year.”
