Premier League club Chelsea have announced the appointment of former Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino as the club’s new head coach ahead of next season.

“Chelsea Football Club is pleased to confirm Mauricio Pochettino will become head coach of the men’s team from the beginning of the 2023/24 season,” the club said in a statement on Monday.

“The Argentine will begin his new role on 1 July 2023 on a two-year contract, with a club option of a further year,” the statement added.

The Argentine’s appointment came following the expiration of Frank Lampard’s tenure as Chelsea interim manager. The Chelsea legend as a footballer took charge at Stamford Bridge following the dismissal of Graham Potter as head coach in April this year.

Pochettino had been out of work since he was sacked by PSG almost a year in July 2022. But the ex-Southampton manager would hope to turn the negative situation around at Stamford Bridge starting from next season following a horrendous display in the just concluded campaign.

The Blues finished 12th in the 2022/23 season with 44 points, making Chelsea lowest position in the top flight division since 1988.
