A Christian cleric, Apostle Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, has resigned from the Kaduna Peace Commission, following now viral comments by immediate past Governor of the State, Nasir El-Rufai, that Muslims would dominate Nigeria’s politics for decades to come.

Dated June 8, Mr Kure’s resignation letter, obtained by Peoples Gazette, was titled, “Letter of Resignation as Co-Chair and Member House of Kaduna Family — Kaduna State Peace Commission”.

In the viral video, Mr El-Rufai actively campaigned for Muslim-Muslim ticket to become the norm in Nigeria. The ex-governor also explained why his past administration favoured Muslims over Christians in Kaduna State.

Further stating his reason for resigning from the committee, Mr Kure said that the Kaduna peace commission had been ineffective under the former governor’s administration, and that Mr El-Rufai’s comment was contrary to his beliefs and what the peace commission stands for.

He stated that Mr El-Rufai’s statement suggests that the peace commission was not set up to succeed, adding that it must have been the reason why the ex-governor never executed any of their suggestions while in office.

The Christian cleric thanked all members of the peace commission, especially Muslim leaders he worked with during his time as the Co-chair and member of the Kaduna Peace Commission.

He regretted that Mr El-Rufai’s comment would stir up deep wounds amongst the people of Southern Kaduna and Christians all over the country.

He wished that the new administration in Kaduna would try to heal wounds and promote harmony between Christians and Muslims in the State, especially in Southern Kaduna.
