The police command in Akwa Ibom on Wednesday confirmed the abduction of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyo Edet.

The victim, popularly known as Eyo Aswang, was abducted by gunmen in the Oron Local Government Area of the state.

The command public relations officer, SP Odiko Macdon, said the Commissioner of Police, Olatoye Durosinmi, has ordered an investigation into the matter.

He added that the commissioner had visited the scene of the incident and the waterfront in Oron, where the abductors burnt a Sienna vehicle used for the operation

“We’ve also seen the Sienna used to perpetuate the act.

“Investigations have commenced already, and I’m sure the perpetrators will be brought to book in no distant time,” Mr Macdon said.

Mr Edet, the deputy coordinator of Divine Mandate Organisation in Oron at the last election, was kidnapped at his filling station in Oron on Monday.

A witness said the kidnappers took the victim into a Sienna vehicle and subsequently into a speed boat.

The abductors, who set the Sienna vehicle ablaze before speeding off into the creeks, are yet to contact Mr Edet’s family.
