The Nigeria Immigration Service, on Wednesday, directed its operatives to clamp down on sexual exploitation around the border communities in Akwa Ibom.

NIS comptroller in the state, Francisca Dakat, gave the directive while declaring open a two-day sensitisation workshop for officers and men of the command in Ikot Ekpene.

Ms Dakat told the personnel that the workshop was to create awareness and equip them for a mainstreaming project of the ‘Modernising Nigeria Immigration Service (MoNIS)’.

“This sensitisation workshop is intended to equip you with the knowledge of the NIS gender policies framework on gender issues and how to deal with gender-based violence, sexual exploitation and abuse,” Ms Dakat said.

She added, “I enjoin you to take advantage of this privilege and make the best out of this opportunity presented by the service in partnership with the International Center for Migration Policy Development.”
