LASTMA warden murdered, another in coma after attack

The General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Olajide Oduyoye, has condemned the assault and murder of its traffic warden, Obasu Godwin.

Mr Oduyoye, who made the condemnation in a statement on Thursday in Lagos, also lamented an attack on another traffic warden, Adeniyi Hakeem.

According to the statement, signed by a spokesman for LASTMA, Filade Olumide, the two officers were attacked by commercial bus drivers around the Anthony area on March 16.

The agency alleged that Mssrs Godwin and Hakeem had closed from work and on their way home when attacked by the drivers plying Bariga-Oshodi route with dangerous weapons.

He explained, “Obazu was struck severally with machetes resulting in deep lacerations on the head and his eventual death. While Hakeem, who was also attacked in a similar fashion, has been hospitalised and in a coma.

“Some senior officers, who were also in mufti and around the area, were lucky to escape the mob attack.”

Mr Oduyoye added that seven suspects were arrested and handed over to the Police.
