The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW)’s South-West zone has expressed readiness to unite and reconcile with all aggrieved member states that withdrew from the union.

Yemi Ogunfiade, an elder of the union in the zone, disclosed this in an interview in Lagos.

Mr Ogunfiade emphasised the importance of reconciling the member states, as the union lost five out of six states in the South-West to Parks Management Committees.

As a result, the union has lost recognition in the zone he represents. He further stated that passing a vote of no confidence in the national president of the union, Tajudeen Baruwa, at the South-West zonal headquarters in Osogbo by the elders and past leaders remains unchanged.

‘’The union decided that Tajudeen Agbede should represent the zone and complete the four years that has been allocated to the southwest,’’ he said.

Mr Ogunfiade, a pioneer of NURTW, said Mr Agbede was nominated to represent South-West at the forthcoming convention in August. He appealed to the other five zones of the union throughout the nation to forgive, assuring that all lost states would be regained and repositioned accordingly.

The Lagos chapter of the union withdrew its membership from the national union following the indefinite suspension of Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, the chairman of the Lagos chapter, due to alleged misconduct, insubordination, and incitement.

The suspension was communicated in a letter dated March 9, 2022, and signed by Kabiru Yau, the general secretary of the NURTW.

In response to the suspension, Mr Akinsanya announced the withdrawal of the Lagos chapter from the national body and called on the state government to take over the parks and garages in line with its white paper on transport union activities in 2004.
