Police arraign man over N620,000 visa fraud

The police on Thursday arraigned a 54-year-old man, Obinna Uzodinma, in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over N620,000 UK visa fraud.
Mr Uzodinma, of no fixed residential address, is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the suspect committed the offences on Feb. 25 at about 10 a.m. at Ajibade Bus Stop area of Lagos.
Ms Adeosun said Mr Uzodinma fraudulently obtained N620,000 from one David Ezemeka to procure UK visa for him and failed to fulfill the promise, instead, he converted the money to personal use.
He added that the offences contravened sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
However, Mr Uzodinma pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the Magistrate, T. A Popoola, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ms Popoola said the sureties must be responsible citizens residing in Lagos and be gainfully employed in a reputable company or government establishment.
He adjourned the case until Sept. 25 for mention.
