NiMet Weather Outlook: Sunshine, thunderstorms expected across Nigeria

The agency forecast cloudy skies with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kwara, Niger, Kogi and Abuja later in the day.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and thunderstorms in parts of the country from Tuesday to Thursday.

NiMet’s weather outlook released on Monday in Abuja predicted sunny skies with patches of cloud over the northern region on Tuesday.

The agency said there were chances of few thunderstorms over parts of Southern Adamawa, Kebbi, Taraba and Kaduna states during the afternoon and evening hours.

It said that cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine were anticipated over the North-Central region in the morning hours, with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Abuja, Kogi and Nasarawa State.

The agency forecast cloudy skies with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Kwara, Niger, Kogi and Abuja later in the day.

NiMet envisaged cloudy skies over the inland cities of the South, with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Osun, Oyo and Edo in the morning.

The agency anticipated cloudy skies with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Abeokuta, Cross-River, Abia, Imo, Edo and Anambra later in the day.

According to NiMet, the coastal region is expected to be predominantly cloudy during the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Lagos.

It said there were prospects of thunderstorms over Calabar, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom and Delta later in the day.

“For Wednesday, partly cloudy skies and sunny skies are expected over the northern region, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Bauchi and Kaduna in the afternoon hours.

“Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are anticipated over the North Central cities in the morning hours with chances of thunderstorms over Abuja, Plateau and Kwara  during the afternoon and evening period.

“It should be predominately cloudy over the inland cities of the South during the morning hours, with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Imo and Abia during the afternoon and evening period, “ it said.

The agency predicted the coastal region to be predominantly cloudy during the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over Rivers,  Akwa-Ibom, and Cross-River  during the afternoon and evening hours.

According to NiMet, dust haze conditions with visibility range of 2km to 5km and localised visibility of less than 1000m should prevail over the Northern region on Thursday.

It forecast cloudy skies over the North-Central region in the morning hours with chances of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Niger and Abuja.

NiMet anticipated cloudiness with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Plateau, Abuja and Southern Kaduna during the afternoon and evening period.

“The inland and coastal cities of the South are expected to be under cloudy skies with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Osun, Enugu and Oyo state during the morning period.

“ Later in the day, a few thunderstorms are expected over the region,“ it said.
