The embattled national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has inaugurated caretaker committee for the 20 local government areas in Lagos State.

Inaugurating the 16-member executive for each council area Sunday evening in Lagos, Mr Abure expressed confidence that the party would be victorious at the presidential election petition court.

Mr Abure, in the company of some party members, including the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi and Pat Utomi, said the 2023 general election was “a struggle to liberate Nigeria.”

The chairman decried the current economic hardship resulting from the fuel subsidy removal and the spate of killings in some parts of the country, especially Plateau.

He said the LP’s participation in the 2023 general election has changed the political landscape in Nigeria.

“We will continue to pursue our mandate, and I’m very sure that the judiciary will do the right thing.

“In the next couple of weeks, the judgement will be out, and we will all come back here to celebrate and form a government of the people,” he assured.

Appreciating the Dayo Ekong-led Lagos State executive committee for providing leadership, Mr Abure said the real structures of the party remained with the executives.

He appealed to party leaders and loyalists in the state to close ranks, saying, “I want us to come together, put aside our grievances, and come together as one family.”

In a short remark, Mr Obi said the return of Nigeria from consumption to a productive nation remained the only way forward.

Mr Utomi thanked the state executives and party members for their resilience.

Ms Ekong, who admonished newly inaugurated caretaker committees to consider their appointment an opportunity to serve, urged them to work assiduously for the party’s growth.

The crisis rocking the Labour Party has not abated as the Lamidi Apapa-led faction inaugurated a 24-man caretaker State Working Committee (SWC) for Lagos State led by Olumide Adesoyin on Saturday.
