60-year-old house developer arrested for N16.62 million fraud

The police on Wednesday arraigned a 60-year-old house developer, Lukman Adewole, for allegedly obtaining N16.62 million from accommodation seekers fraudulently.
Mr Adewole, whose address was not provided, faces a two-count charge before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo, told the court that on June 15, the defendant conspired with some others at large to obtain money by false pretence.
Mr Odugbo said N16.62 million was obtained from Yekeen Olakunle, Asuquo Alex, and others with the pretence of giving them an accommodation, which Mr Adewole never did.
The offences contravened sections 411 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The magistrate, M. F. Onamusi, admitted the defendant to N million bail with two sureties, who must be gainfully employed and provide evidence of three years’ tax payment.
She adjourned the case until September 6 for mention.
