A 23-year-old sales representative, Qudir Afolabi, has appeared in a magistrates’ court in Ikeja for stealing.

Mr Afolabi was accused of stealing cartons of beer worth N4.6 million from his employer.

The police charged Mr Afolabi with conspiracy and theft. But he pleaded not guilty on Friday.

The prosecution counsel, ASP Bisi Ogunleye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence with others at large on January 13 at the Abule-Egba area.

According to Mr Ogunleye, the defendant stole the beers belonging to Fafem Haulage Nigeria Ltd.

He added that the defendant also stole six truck tyres worth N750,000.

Mr Ogunleye noted that the offence contravened sections 287 (7) and 411 of Lagos’ Criminal Law, 2015.

The magistrate, Ejiro Kubeinje, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.

Ms Kubeinje ordered that the sureties be gainfully employed with evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos government.

She adjourned the case until April 14, for mention.
