Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan clocked the third-fastest time in the women’s 100m hurdles heats on Tuesday to qualify for the semifinals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The 26-year-old, given the green light to defend her 100m hurdles title only two days before the tournament after a tribunal overturned her provisional ban over anti-doping rules violations, ran a time of 12.48s(0.4) to win the fifth women’s heat.

Jamaican champion Megan Tapper finished second in the fifth heat with a time of 12.51s while Australia’s Michelle Jenneke ran a time of 12.71s to finish third.

Amusan alongside 26 others, including Kendra Harrison of United States, who ran the fastest in the heat (12.24s), Devynne Charlton, second-fastest (12.44s) will return to the track on Wednesday evening for the semifinals.

The first two from each of the three heats will qualify for the final automatically while the two fastest runners from the heats will join the six as non-automatic qualifiers to complete the final eight.
