Mr. Adeboye’s comments could worry the Buhari administration, which has continued to tap into his influence amongst Nigerian Christians.

Enoch Adeboye says terrorists and sponsors in Nigeria will not “see the new year.”

“I’m standing on this altar today to decree in the name that is above every other name, any terrorist and any sponsor of terrorists in Nigeria will not see the new year,” the RCCG lead preacher told congregants at a thanksgiving service on Sunday morning.

Nigeria has been confronting spontaneous attacks from armed groups across different parts of the country. The Boko Haram insurgency that began in the North in July 2009 is being actively prevented from spreading to the South. Armed herdsmen have been unleashing untold carnage across the central region.

Mr. Adeboye’s comments Sunday morning marked the second intervention of the influential pastor within the last 24 hours.

Yesterday, while speaking at a symposium on Independence Day, Mr. Adeboye warned that Nigeria risks a break up if the nation is not restructured, which involves streamlining federal powers and delegating them to regional and local leadership.

“Why can’t we have a system of government that will create what I will call the United States of Nigeria?” Mr. Adeboye said.

He continued: “Let me explain. We all know that we must restructure. It is either we restructure or we break, you don’t have to be a prophet to know that one. That is certain – restructure or we break up.”

Mr. Adeboye’s comments could worry the Buhari administration, which has continued to keep relations with him for his influence amongst Nigerian Christians.

Vice President Yemi Osibajo and many other top government functionaries are members of Mr. Adeboye’s church.
