The Nigerian Bar Association has asked President Bola Tinubu to replicate his so-called achievements in Lagos while its governor across Nigeria.

NBA president Yakubu Maikyau disclosed this in his welcome adress at the NBA annual conference at MKO Abiola Stadium on Sunday.

“President Tinubu got it right in Lagos, and it is our considered expectation that as president of Nigeria, you will not only replicate your achievements in Lagos, but surpass them for our country,” Mr Maikyau Mr Tinubu was Lagos governor between 1999 and 2007. He is being touted as turning around the fortunes of the state while his critics accuse him of promoting corruption and institutionalising thuggery in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre. Mr Tinubu promised to transform Nigeria as he did during his presidential campaigns. But his opponents insisted that Lagos has remained mired in a paradox of prosperity for a few individuals and grinding poverty for millions of Lagosians, therefore, he does not have the track records and capacity to change Nigeria’s worsening socio-economic and political situations.

The president, who declared open this year’s NBA conference, in his speech said his administration would not continue to set Nigeria on a path to destruction by servicing external debt with the country’s scarce revenue.

Mr Tinubu, however, berated Nigerians for always accusing past leaders for their woes and complaining “a lot” about the past, asking them to have a positive mindset.

The president attended the conference alongside the attorney general of the federation, Lateef Fagbemi, his chief of staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, FCT minister Nyesom Wike and sport minister John Enoh.
