A Human Rights group, South-South Youths Initiative based in Rivers, has urged equity and fairness in the distribution of palliatives in the state.
Imeabe Oscar, chairman of the group said this in Port Harcourt.
The group also frowned at the appointment of the state PDP chairman Desmond Akawo as the chairman of the state palliatives distribution committee.
According to him, the committee may not do justice to deserving beneficiaries as partisanship may characterise the process.
He said that Governor Siminialaye Fubara is expected to demonstrate a high level of justice as he promised during his campaign.
“We strongly object to the appointment of Akawo as chairman of the palliatives distribution committee.
“The committee is set to share the sum of N2 billion and 16,800 bags of rice released by the Federal Government for the poor in the state.”
He also claimed that local government council chairmen were also appointed to handle the distribution at the local government level.
He said that local government council chairmen were chieftains of the PDP at the grassroots and wondered what becomes of opposition party members in the distribution of the palliatives.
Mr Oscar urged the governor to look inward, incorporate interest groups and non- political interventionist groups in the palliatives distribution process to ensure equitable distribution.
