Sokoto’s Gov. Aliyu declares Friday public holiday to mark 100-day in office

Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto state has declared Friday as a public holiday for the state’s civil servants to celebrate the first 100 days of his administration.
Mr Aliyu made the declaration at a special prayer session organised by the state government as part of activities lined up for the governor’s 100-day in office on Wednesday in Sokoto.
The governor said the day was a remarkable one which would remain historic in the victory and growth of democracy in the state.
“I have been saying and will continue to say that election is over and all political opposition should be suspended.
“My door is open and always ready to accept any positive criticism that will aid our administration to do well for our state.
“More so, I will continue to welcome everyone who in one way or the other has good intention of supporting the development of our state,” he said.
Mr Aliyu appreciated the All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in the state particularly Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC-Sokoto North) and Maigari Dingyadi, the immediate past minister of police affairs for their guidance and support to him.
Mr Aliyu, while thanking the people of the state for their support of his administration, appealed to them to continue to advise the government on proper ways to make the state excel.
In his remarks, the state APC leader, Mr Wamakko, restated that his choice for Mr Aliyu had since yielded the desired needs of the public in the state.
“Our choice for Aliyu is for the best of the entire people of Sokoto State and such dedication has become fruitful to our present development,” he said.
Earlier, the state commissioner for religious affairs, Sheikh Jabir Maihula, said the session was organised to appreciate the Almighty Allah for the success recorded by the government in a jiffy.
The prayer session was attended by Imams of Juma’at Mosques, Islamic scholars, politicians and members of the public, among others.
