EPL: Fernandes helps Man United return to winning ways; 10-man City beat Forest to maintain perfect start

After three defeats in a row, Erik ten Hag and his Manchester United are back to winning thanks to a hard-earned 1-0 victory over Vincent Kompany’s Burnley Turf Moor on Saturday evening.
Having lost to Arsenal, Brighton, and Bayern Munich in their last three games, pressure had been mounting on Ten Hag to turn things around, and they did just that against Burnley, courtesy of Bruno Fernandes’ outrageous first-half goal.
Jonny Evans, who was making his first United start after eight and half years, provided Fernandez with the assist for the goal from the middle of the pitch. The 35-year-old’s impressive return to Old Trafford had been his header was ruled out for offside.
Burnley finished the game having the better possession (62 per cent) and the most shots (12) but did not make that count – the closest they came to scoring was in the 17th minute when Zeki Amdouni’s low effort struck the post.
Rasmus Højlund could have doubled United’s lead in the second half, but the Danish youngster, who was inside the six-yard box, could not put a cross from Diogo Dalot past the goalkeeper.
Back home in Manchester, 10-man defending champions Manchester City maintained their perfect start in the campaign courtesy of a 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.
Two goals by Phil Foden and Erling Harland in the seventh and 14th minutes, respectively, gave City an early win, which later proved important as they struggled to control the game again after Rodri was sent off for violent conduct in the early minutes of the second half.
