Olamide Oladiji, the Ondo State House of Assembly speaker, has raised the alarm over an alleged threat to his life by yet-to-be-identified persons in the state.

Mr Oladiji claimed that the threat to his life began with the impeachment plot against the deputy speaker, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

“Since the day we started this impeachment process, I have been receiving strange calls, and my life has been under serious threat from unknown people,” he told journalists on Monday in Akure.

Peoples Gazette reports that the alarm from the Ondo Speaker came after a fetish item suspected to be sacrifice was found at the entrance of his lodge.

The fetish item was sighted at the entrance of Mr Oladiji’s lodge beside the Alagbaka government house in the early hours of Monday.

A source said the development was an attempt to scare and stop members of the Assembly and speaker from impeaching Mr Aiyedatiwa as the state’s deputy governor.

Last Wednesday, the Assembly began an impeachment move against Mr Aiyedatiwa after it accused him of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Mr Oladiji, however, explained that he had reported the threat to his life to security agencies in the state.

“I want to call on the people of Ondo State and security operatives to track these people down,” the speaker said.

He explained that the assembly has also secured a substituted service in the court to serve the deputy governor the petition bearing his gross misconduct.

Mr Oladiji said the 26 lawmakers in the state House of Assembly appended their signature on the petition for the deputy governor’s impeachment.

The impeachment move against Mr Aiyedatiwa came a few days after Governor Rotimi Akeredolu returned from his three-month medical vacation in Germany.
