“I call our supporters to remain calm and we are determined to get justice and reclaim our mandate at the higher court,” said a PDP lawyer.

Reactions have trailed the governorship election petition tribunal judgment affirming Governor Francis Nwifuru of the All Progressives Congress’ victory in Ebonyi’s March 18 gubernatorial poll.

The tribunal, on Wednesday, dismissed the petitions of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and its candidate, Benard Odoh and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, IfeanyiChukwuma Odii.

The tribunal struck out all the petitions against Mr Nwifuru and ruled in his favour as the duly elected governor.

Some stakeholders in Ebonyi on Thursday in Abakaliki commended the judiciary on the judgment, while others expressed displeasure.

Kachukwu Emmanuel, a political analyst and APC stakeholder hailed the judiciary on the judgment, noting that it was a victory for the people of Ebonyi.

“People voted for him and there are no two ways about it. This jubilation is purely a show of love. We are happy over the ruling. Congratulations to him and APC,” Mr Emmanuel stated.

However, PDP deputy chair, Ifeanyi Nworie, said the judgment was unacceptable and asked party members and supporters to remain calm.

Mr Nworie, a legal practitioner and PDP legal team member vowed that the party would move to a higher court for appeal.

“I call our supporters to remain calm and we are determined to get justice and reclaim our mandate at the higher court,” Mr Nworie added.

Ogbuefi Zaccheaus, PDP secretary, decried the tribunal judgment and noted that the party would head to the appeal court.

Patricia Nweke, a civil servant, urged the political parties to support the winner and move Ebonyi forward.

“I believe that the court remains the last hope for the common man, so let us eschew anger and let us support the winner to build our dear state,” Ms Nweke said.
