298 arrested in Jigawa for murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping: Police

The police command in Jigawa says it arrested 298 suspects for various crimes in the third quarter of 2023.
This is contained in a statement by the command’s spokesman, DSP Lawan Shiisu, on Wednesday.
The command recovered 64 rustled animals and firearms and rescued six kidnapped victims in special operations conducted within the period under review, said the statement.
The suspects were apprehended for alleged robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, vandalism, animal rustling, and fraud. Twenty-five suspects were nabbed for robberies, 12 for kidnappings, 36 for murders, 25 for rape, 37 for theft, 15 for vandalism, 17 for animal rustling and five for fraud, said the statement. One hundred twenty-six others were arrested for belonging to a gang of brigands.
The police said one AK-47 rifle, a Beretta pistol, three locally-made guns, 48 live ammunition, 20 vehicles, and 64 rustled animals were recovered, including 560 parcels of cannabis sativa and some narcotic substances.
“The crime prevention strategies adopted by Jigawa Police Command in the ongoing fight against all forms of crimes and criminalities in the state during the period under review yielded dividends, as the state remained generally peaceful as residents go about their lawful businesses without fear of molestation.
“This feat was made possible by the proactive measures put in place by the command, whose personnel worked tirelessly to checkmate the activities of criminals for a peaceful atmosphere,” the police statement said.
