The Canadian Embassy in Nigeria has commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for addressing challenges affecting women’s development.
The Canada High Commissioner to Nigeria, James Chrisoff, gave the commendation when he visited Mr Wike in his office in Abuja on Tuesday.
Mr Chrisoff particularly described the establishment of the Women Affairs Secretariat in the FCT Administration as a “critical step” to empower women.
He said Canada would maintain its strong diplomatic relations with Nigeria, adding that citizens residing in Canada were providing the necessary bridge between the two countries.
Mr Chrisoff expressed his country’s interest in partnering with Nigeria on agriculture, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s economic agenda.
Responding, Mr Wike assured foreign missions and other investors of improved security, stressing that security agencies were working to keep the country safe.
The minister said the joint task force on “one chance” operators was already yielding the desired results, adding that no incident had been recorded since the team began operation.
He added that Mr Tinubu has implemented modalities to ensure his renewed hope agenda is felt nationwide.
According to him, many development efforts are ongoing in the FCT in line with the renewed hope agenda.
“Security has improved in the FCT because security agencies have been working round the clock to ensure that the environment remains safe,” he said.
Mr Wike said his leadership focused on increasing internally generated revenue in the FCT for development projects.
He encouraged corporate bodies, foreign missions, and taxpayers to fulfil their tax obligations.
In a related development, the pioneer secretary of the Women Affairs Secretariat, Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi, was inaugurated by the minister.
