Hushpuppi’s trial delayed till May 2021

The Central District Court of California has delayed trial in Hushpuppi’s case until May 2021.
The decision was made based on advice received by public health experts from the Centers for Disease control as a result of the COVID – 19 pandemic, as well as a “stay-at-home” edict given by the Governor of the State of California. The edict makes it “impossible to empanel a jury for the foreseeable future,” court documents seen by Peoples Gazette said.
In June, the 37-year-old Ramon Abbas, an Instagram sensation, was arrested in Dubai following a police operation ‘Fox Hunt 2.’
Police said their crimes included money-laundering, cyber fraud, hacking, criminal impersonating, scamming individuals, banking fraud and identity theft committed outside the UAE. They were referred to Dubai prosecution for investigations.
In July, Mr Abbas alongside Olalekan Ponle, popularly known as Woodberry, was extradited to Chicago in the United States where he was first arraigned, the U.S. Court in Illinois did not have jurisdiction over the case. It was then transferred to Los Angeles, a city in California.
Since his transfer to California late July, he has been held in the custody of the U.S. Marshal in a federal prison. If convicted, Hushpuppi stands to face the next 20 years in a U.S federal prison.
