Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi has inaugurated the N3.8 billion rehabilitation of the Yauri township roads project in the Yauri Local Government Area of the state.

Mr Idris, while inaugurating the roads on Saturday, also announced the rehabilitation of Warra township roads in Ngaski Local Government Area, worth N1.8 billion.

He said, “Of all the local government areas of the state, Warra roads are the only ones not rehabilitated, which the government found necessary to take action.”

Mr Idris also said roads in Zuru Emirate would be next for rehabilitation.

He added that negotiations were being finalised between the state and federal governments to complete the Koko/Dabai road and construct the Malando-Warra-Kainji road.

“We informed the federal government that the present contractor handling the project is incompetent and will, therefore, like the federal authority concerned, revoke the contract and hand it over to the state government,” he said.

Mr Idris also announced that his administration would equally rehabilitate roads in the Argungu Emirate Council and other parts of the state.

Mr Idris said the state government had acquired a large expanse of land and paid compensation for establishing the Federal College of Education, Yauri.

The governor acknowledged that priority, material and financial support given to security matters had yielded positive results for the return of adequate security in the emirates.

In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdullahi Umar-Faruk, said the roads’ rehabilitation was in line with the good governance spirit of Mr Idris’ administration.
