The Israeli government has decided to reopen schools and revert from lessons in small groups to normal classroom sizes from Sunday.

The prime minister’s office, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced the decision early on Tuesday, almost four months after starting a vaccination campaign widely deemed one of the most successful in the world.

At the same time, a monitoring system would introduce to detect infections quickly, Netanyahu’s office said.

Since the start of the vaccination campaign on December 19, the number of new infections and the number of seriously ill people have fallen sharply in the country of nine million people.

The government has begun to ease coronavirus-related restrictions gradually.
