The Borno government has signed a N10.9 billion Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dan Nene Construction Company to construct three major roads of about 7.26 kilometres in the state.

Mustapha Gubio, the state’s Commissioner for Works and Housing, announced this d on Saturday in Maiduguri.

He said the project aimed to decongest Maiduguri city and expand development.

The 3.5 km of the road project would pass through the Shehu Umar Garbai and Bursari Road from the Shehu roundabout to link Baga Road at the state mechanical workshop.

The second road, measuring 2.4 kilometres, would pass through the Monday Market roundabout to Budum roundabout and Kofa Biyu.

The third one, Sultan Maimalari Road, measuring 1.5 km, is from Idrissa Khadi junction to Sir Kashim Ibrahim Way through the Budum roundabout.

Mr Mustapha said the government had paid the contractor 40 per cent of the contract sum.

He assured that as the work progressed, subsequent payments would be made on the presentation of valuation duly vetted by engineers on site.

The commissioner said with the 40 per cent down payment, it was expected that much progress would be achieved within a short time.

He said Dan Nene Construction Company was found most suitable for the job.

He called on the company to ensure the completion of the project within the stipulated eight months and to adhere strictly to its specifications.

The representative of the construction company, Li Chao, assured that the project would be completed within the time frame given.
