LASTMA impounds 78 trucks parked illegally, begins enforcement

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has commenced the enforcement of the ban on indiscriminate parking across the state.
The operation which started overnight, early Sunday morning, witnessed the impounding of 78 trucks indiscriminately parked in the Apapa-Ijora area of the state.
The Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department, LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed this in a press statement on the agency’s X handle on Sunday.
The exercise was undertaken by LASTMA officers led by the General Manager, Mr Bankole Oki Olalekan, along with other relevant security agencies, to ease traffic for residents during the yuletide season and beyond.
Warning that indiscriminate parking and road obstructions in the axis wouldn’t be tolerated, he urged drivers to contact the agency’s hotlines to report any abandoned or broken-down trailers or trucks on the roads.
The statement read, “Lagos State Traffic Management Authority today during an early Sunday morning enforcement operations led by General Manager, Mr. Bakare Olalekan, in conjunction with relevant security agencies to ensure smooth/seamless traffic for Lagosians during this festive season and beyond, impounded another 78 illegally parked containerised trucks on top High Bridge by Lilly Pond inward Apapa and Sifax axis of Ijora (Olopa).
“The early Sunday morning enforcement operations lasted between 12 am to 7 am. According to Mr. Bakare Oki (G.M LASTMA), the enforcement operations will be continuous with zero tolerance for indiscriminate parking and impediments in the axis. He, however, called on motorists to take possession of the road and not hesitate to inform LASTMA of any broken down or abandoned trailer/truck via the agency’s hotlines.’’
