The women wing of the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN) says it has trained 1,000 women and girls in leadership skills to improve their social and economic well-being.

Mardiya Imam, the chairperson of the group, told journalists in Bauchi on Wednesday that the beneficiaries were trained during the 80th Islamic Vocation Course (IVC) held in Bauchi between Dec. 22 and Dec. 27.

She said the exercise focused on providing marital counselling to promote tolerance and morals in accordance with Islamic teachings.

Ms Imam said the women received training based on their educational qualifications and specialisations to enhance understanding.

“The five days long training generated questions and answers on topical issues under discussion, including Gender-Based Violence (GBV),” she said.

While urging the women to strive toward uplifting their social and economic status, Ms Imam lauded the Bauchi government and the MSSN for the gesture.
