Five killed in another Lagos gas explosion

Reports say the explosion broke from a gas station generator that was running while the LPG tanker was discharging.

Five persons have been confirmed dead in the gas explosion at Baruwa, in the  Alimosho area of Lagos this morning. 

The explosion occurred at about 6:00 a.m. when a liquefied gas tanker was discharging at the Best Roof Plant Station in the Fatade area of Baruwa, Alimosho, Peoples Gazette learnt.

Ibrahim Farinloye, an emergency official, said three persons were rescued while five bodies were recovered from the explosion, the rescued persons were taken to a hospital after first aid had been administered. 

The cause of the explosion is reported to be from the generator of the gas station which was running while the LPG tanker was discharging.
The explosion at Best Roof Gas Plant affected several buildings, as it is located in a highly populated area. 

City emergency services counted two bungalows, four storey buildings which includes a school, one hotel, one creative center and one residential building  as damaged by the incident. Many vehicles were also destroyed in the fire.

LASEMA further said the gas valve has been opened to release the gas to avert another explosion while firefighters are monitoring the area.

This explosion comes two weeks after the last explosion at Iju Ishaga, caused by a 30-tonne liquefied gas tanker, which claimed many lives.
