FG urged to establish sports university in Kano

Muhammad Shehu, representing the Fagge federal constituency, has appealed to the federal government to establish a sports university in Kano.
Mr Shehu made the appeal during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano, on Thursday.
The lawmaker said the university, when established, would provide employment and reduce crime rates among youths as inhabitants would be exposed to prospects in education.
He said that the institution would be a gesture by the government to give back to the people of Kano.
The lawmaker suggested converting the Sports Institute in Karfi, Kura LGA, for that purpose.
The federal lawmaker said he had paid the tuition fees for over 512 students from his constituency in different tertiary institutions.
He said the gesture aimed at providing a qualitative and sound education for optimal growth.
On youth empowerment, Shehu said he commenced sponsorship of cluster tailoring outfits within his constituency for major contracts.
He explained that arrangements had been concluded to register them with the Corporate Affairs Commission so that they could get contracts to sow uniforms for schools and military and paramilitary agencies.
The lawmaker further restated his commitment to the growth and development of the local government areas under his federal constituency.
Mr Shehu assured that he would propose bills to accelerate the development of his constituency.
