Jobless Abuja man arrested for stealing phones

A 22-year-old unemployed man, Odoh Ernest, was arraigned before the Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Wednesday for stealing two phones worth N820,000.
The police charged Ernest with theft and mischief.
The prosecution counsel, Steven Osho, told the court that on January 5, the complainant, Izong Stephenie of Area 10 Garki, reported the matter at the Garki Police Station.
Mr Osho said the defendant accosted the complainant and her sister while returning from the supermarket and snatched their phones.
He told the court that the defendant made away with the complainant’s iPhone 12 Pro Max and her sister’s Techno Camo 10 phone, all worth N820,000.
The prosecutor said that during the police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of himself.
Mr Osho said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 287 and 327 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant bail of N1 million, with one surety in like sum.
Mr Kagarko ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and produce reliable means of identification.
He, thereafter, adjourned the matter until January 24 for a hearing.
