Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, has assured students that the university will ensure that the institution’s learning environment remains conducive and competitive.

Mr Olatunji-Bello gave the assurance at the 2024 students’ orientation programme of the LASU School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS) campus on Wednesday in Badagry.

The VC, who was represented by Prof. Adenike Boyo, the deputy vice chancellor of administration, said the welfare of the students remained a top priority.

“Our vision is to become the best university in West Africa, and you, our dear students, are an integral part of that vision.

“Hence, what we have provided to make your journey on this campus successful is the best of both human and material resources.

“Our teaching and non-teaching staff are not only here to Impart knowledge and sound morals to you, but they are also here in place of locus parentis.

“This is to help you to provide guidance and direction when the need arises,” she said.

On the LASUSBAS programme, she said the one-year programme was to boost students’ knowledge in order to be well-placed to gain admission for degree courses in the institution.

“Today, we hold another orientation programme for our new intakes in what has become a tradition of excellence in this school.

“I heartily rejoice with our new students on your meritorious admission into the LASUSBAS programme.

‘Many of you are here to boost your knowledge in order to be well-placed to gain admission into our University.

“I like to assure you that you and your parents have made the right decision.

“At LASU, we are driven by excellence, and we floated this programme to assist admission seekers to become grounded in the A- Level programme as a prelude to your admission into the undergraduate programme,” she said.

Prof. Yunus Dauda, director, LASUSBAS, thanked Mr Olatunji-Bello for providing the school with the necessary inspiration, support, resources and enabling environment to achieve its objectives.

According to him, the VCs’ determination, efforts and commitment to achieving her mission and vision for the university led to the great achievements of LASUSBAS major objectives.

“Today’s orientation is to showcase LASUSBAS achievements and to reiterate our resolve and commitment to promoting teaching, research and community service.

“It is also to make our new students understand the LASU’s dos and don’ts and requirements for success in the JUPEB examination, which will take place in July 2024,” he said.

Mr Dauda urged the students to face their studies to enable them to transition to 200 levels.

He also urged the university management to consider the provision of more classrooms and a befitting clinic for students and staff of LASUSBAS.

Mr Dauda also called for the provision of administrative offices, a 42-seater luxury bus and solar lights on the campus.

“There is also the need to re-paint LASUSBAS campus and the male and female hostels and provide internet facility on campus,” he said.
