DJ Cuppy has admitted that she was not adding her voice to the ongoing #EndSARS campaign because she was advised against it. She, however, did not say whether the pressure was from her billionaire father, Femi Otedola, or others within her family and circles.

In separate tweets on Friday morning, the celebrity jockey and musician said that she would have come up in support of the nationwide protest to scrap the brutal police unit but was advised against it by those around her.

DJ Cuppy said she will henceforth not keep quiet with trending videos on social media platforms indicating multiple attacks and summary execution by police officers in Lagos and Delta as the #EndSARS protests enter day two. 

On Friday morning, international popstar Cardi B showed interest in the tales of woes suffered by Nigerians from vicious police officers across the country.

On day one of the nationwide #ENDSARS protest. Celebrities like Falz, Runtown led protesters in Lagos Island, while Instagram sensation Mr. Macaroni joined the camp out at the Lagos Governor’s office in Ikeja.

Yele Sowore, Deji Adeyanju, Aisha Yesufu and other activists had a sit-in outside the Force Headquarters in Abuja. Other Nigerians in Delta and Edo also took the street. 

The police have said they understood the campaigners, and even announced fresh guidelines on personnel conduct. Citizens and rights groups, including Amnesty International, however, said the measures announced by the police leadership were suspicious and insufficient.

The campaigners and some federal lawmakers, including Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila and member Akin Alabi, want the police to yield first to their demand and scrap the SARS unit, then institute another squad to combat worsening insecurity.
