Gunmen kill two Ekiti traditional rulers

Suspected gunmen ambushed some traditional rulers in Ekiti State, killing two of the monarchs in the process, Peoples Gazette just learnt.
It was gathered that the two casualties, David Babatunde Ogunsakin, Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, and Olatunde Samuel Olushola, Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, were killed by the gunmen on Monday.
The victims were said to be returning from Ogbe, a neighbouring town on Yagba West LGA of Kogi, when the gun-welding men, believed to be kidnappers, ambushed their vehicle.
However, one of the monarchs, the Alara of Ara Ikole, identified as Fatoba, who was also in transit with his colleagues, escaped the attack.
The chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Michael Ogungbemi, confirmed the attack.
Mr Ogungbemi, who revealed that the incident took place on Oke Ako road in Ikole LGA of the state, said the two victims had been evacuated from the scene of the attack.
“I just returned from the scene of the unfortunate incident along Oke-Ako road and I can confirm that two of the traditional rulers; the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti and Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti were killed by the gunmen who ambushed them.
“The Alara of Ara-Ekiti managed to escape from the incident. He was the one driving when the incident happened,” he said.
Sunday Abutu, police spokesman in the Ekiti State, command could not immediately confirm the incident to The Gazette when contacted.
Mr Abutu, however, promised to get back to our reporter shortly.
The Gazette gathered that men of the Amotekun Corps and some vigilantes had been drafted to the scene.
