“Football Twitter” joins #EndSARS campaign
As the protests against police brutality in Nigeria continue to gain traction worldwide, many Twitter users who are influential football fans have lent their voices to the #EndSARS campaign.
These users who ordinarily are known for their fanatical football contents say they cannot look away from the injustice happening in Nigeria.
Tweeting under the username, Pogba Senior, a user decried the low coverage of the protests while calling for increased awareness.
Another user, @CFCMod_ said the world needs to know what is happening in Nigeria.
Many other “football twitter” have also expressed their solidarity as shown in the tweets below:
The intervention of online football adherents underscores the increasing global awareness of policing issues in Nigeria.
Sports authorities often avoid socio-political issues at sporting engagements but such rules were bent in the heat of #BlackLivesMatter movement earlier in the year.
Many sports teams and stars were allowed to lend their voices against police brutality against black people in America.
The #EndSARS movement is taking a similar trajectory and it could only be a matter of time before sports stars worldwide join the movement.
