Ghana signs visa waiver agreement with Bahamas

The government of Ghana and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas have signed a visa waiver agreement.
The development came barely a year after both countries agreed to deepen their cooperation by introducing a visa-free regime for all passport holders of the two nations.
Signed on January 31, the agreement aims to facilitate travel and boost the tourism sector by removing barriers for Ghanaians visiting The Bahamas and vice-versa.
The agreement will also apply to holders of diplomatic, official or ordinary passports from the two countries.
Both tourists and visitors who intend to travel from Ghana to The Bahamas and vice-versa will no longer require a visa upon entry, as the two countries signed the visa waiver agreement.
In its circular, the government of The Bahamas notified relevant stakeholders that the agreement with Ghana had been concluded.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration is by a note referenced AD/HAV/WA dated 31 January 2024 from the Embassy of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, notifying the Service of a Visa Waiver Agreement for holders of Diplomatic, Service and Ordinary Passports, signed between the Republic of Ghana and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
“The waiver aims to forestall challenges and inconveniences faced by uninformed travellers between Ghana and the Bahamas,” the circular read in part.
By the circular, the diplomatic service and ordinary passport holders can now access both countries without visas.
