Abuja driver arraigned for traffic light violation

A 25-year-old driver, Precious Ugo, was arraigned on Wednesday before the Lugbe Grade I Area Court, Abuja, for disobeying a traffic light and causing injury to a police officer on duty.
The police alleged that the defendant, whose address was not provided, disobeyed a traffic light along Rita Lorri Junction, Abuja, on February 16.
The prosecution counsel, S.O. Osho, told the court that when a police officer approached the defendant on duty over the alleged offence, he assaulted the officer by injuring one of his eyes.
Mr Osho said the officer was taken to a nearby hospital, where N20,000 was spent for eye treatment.
Mr Ugo pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, admitted the defendant to bail of N2 million with one surety in like sum.
Mr Kagarko adjourned the case until March 13 for further hearing.
