Police storm Benue APC secretariat, stop party’s SEC meeting

The anti-riot team of the Benue State Police Command on Friday took over the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress over the worsening security crisis in the state.
A detachment of mobile and regular police operatives, men of the Civil Defence Corps and Live Stock Guards were said to have arrived at the gates of the secretariat as early as 7:00 a.m.
They reportedly used their operational vehicles to block all roads leading to the secretariat.
The operatives were also said to have stopped the State Executive Council Meeting (SEC) and its stakeholders’ meeting organised by the party’s exco led by Austin Agada.
The state commissioner of police, Emmanuel Adesina, in a letter addressed to Mr Agada, said, “The State Executive Council meeting and all kinds of political meeting be suspended till further notice.”
The letter signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Samuel Gimba said the SEC meeting must be halted following the directive by Governor Hyacinth Alia that all forms of political meetings and gatherings in the state be suspended due to the volatile security atmosphere.
