The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja has inaugurated a 25-seat capacity computer laboratory built for the Government Girls Secondary School Charanchi, Bichi Local Government Area, Kano State.

Inaugurating the project on Saturday, Mr Lagbaja said the project was part of an effort to encourage the learning of ICT at the secondary school level.

He explained that his office initiated the special intervention projects to support communities of serving senior officers of the Nigerian Army who, through dedication to duty and service to the nation, rose to the enviable rank of Maj.-Gen.

Mr Lagbaja, represented by Maj. Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, Chief of Civil Military Affairs, said the project would complement existing infrastructure and promote and strengthen civil-military cooperation in such beneficial communities.

“This project will further serve as an avenue to associate with communities,” he said.

The COAS congratulated the project executor, Maj.- Gen. Umar Bichi-Abubakar, the coordinator of Peace Support Operations, Ministry of Defence, for the timely completion of the project and the quality of work done.

Earlier, Mr Bichi-Abubakar expressed appreciation to the COAS for the project.

He also commended him for funding the project, giving back to Nigerians and putting smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries.

Mr Bichi-Abubakar disclosed that the centre would cater to 1,380 female students, adding that the computer knowledge they would acquire would help them even in their matrimonial homes.

According to him, the centre will further strengthen civil-military relations.

Mr Bichi-Abubakar called on the community’s residents to use the facility wisely.

Also, the school’s principal, Safiya Mahe, commended the military for sitting on such an important project there.
