The deck of a bridge under construction on the metro line of Toulouse, a city in southern France, collapsed on Monday, leaving one person dead and several injured.

Part of the deck of a bridge under construction collapsed on the Tisseo construction site of line C of the Toulouse metro this Monday, resulting in one death and two others in an absolute emergency.”

Tisseo is the public transport authority for the Toulouse metropolitan area. The collapsed bridge is located at Labege, about 14 km from the centre of Toulouse, the fourth largest city in France.

Search operations are still ongoing to confirm the number of deaths and injuries.

According to the first elements available to us, it was some prefabricated elements, the segments on which the deck rests, that have broken, the president of Tisseo, Jean-Michel Lattes, said.

But it is still too early to know where the failure was,” Mr Jean-Michel Lattes added.
