Nigeria and Tanzania shared points on Thursday in the opening game of the women’s cricket event at the ongoing African Games in Ghana.

The game at the Achimota school cricket oval saw Tanzania win the toss and opt to bat.

Nigeria taking on fielding, restricted the East African to 58/3 in 10 overs before rain halted play and the pitch declared unfit to continue play by the playing control team of the tournament.

Both sides had to take home one point apiece in the opening game of Group A.

Blessing Etim, captain of the Nigerian team, said the game would have helped expose their challenges.

“I wish we had played out the game. We would have been able to assess our strengths and weaknesses better. On Friday, we face Namibia, and hopefully, we can get a good one in the game,” she said.

Nigeria is in Group A and will face South Africa on Sunday.

Eight teams will be featured at the event as cricket makes its debut at the tournament.
