Man arraigned for assaulting wife in Ado-Ekiti

On Friday, the police arraigned a 43-year-old man, Chibike Nwakedi, before a chief magistrates’ court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly assaulting his wife.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Sodiq Adeniyi told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 3 at about 8:00 p.m. behind Bovas filling station in Ado-Ekiti.
Mr Adeniyi alleged that the defendant assaulted his wife, Blessing Nwakedi, by hitting her right leg with his leg against the bed; as a result, she sustained dislocation on her right leg.
He alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
According to him, the offences contravened sections 186 and 181(D) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Gbenga Ariyibi, urged the court to grant him bail, promising he would not jump bail.
In her ruling, the chief magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted the defendant N50,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until March 28 for a hearing.
