Minister inaugurates 17-man evaluation team on digital sector performance

The minister of communications, innovation and digital economy, Bosun Tijani, has inaugurated a 17-man ministerial delivery task team to evaluate and report performance of the digital sector.
Mr Tijani was represented at the inauguration by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Faruk Yabo, on Friday in Abuja.
The minister said that the gesture was in connection with the eight pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Tinubu administration.
According to him, the digital sector is pivotal, and impacts immensely on the various sectors of the economy such as health, education, power among others.
“To underscore the significance of the task at hand, the entire delivery of the democratic dividends to the nation has its anchor here in this ministry.
“We play a key role in Mr President’s vision to attain societal and prosperous status, therefore the job you are called upon to do is significant in its actualisation,” he said.
The minister said that the team was drawn from the best of the ministry and its agencies to give value in terms of data collection, evaluation and reporting on the key performances in the digital economy.
He called on members of the team to see their selection as the best in reflection of the confidence reposed in them by their different offices.
He urged them to endeavour to know the five different pillars that their agencies represent, which should reflect in their assignments.
Mr Tijani said that the team was expected to understand the workings of the agencies and departments’ mission, goals and objectives.
According to him, members of the team should understand the scope of work for the various budgeting years in line with the template of the five pillars of the ministry’s strategic blueprint.
He said that the essence of the task team was to know what each technical department of the ministry and the various agencies were contributing to the five pillars.
He encouraged them to work with their press units to ensure that their assignments were well documented with relevant pictures provided for.
Earlier, Ogunfuyi Ibukun, delivery manager, Central Delivery Coordination Unit (CDCU), said that the team was set up to track the implementation of the eight presidential key priorities.
According to Ms Ibukun, in handling the implementation, CDCU cannot achieve the task alone hence the need for the inauguration of the ministerial delivery task team.
She said the task was crucial, sensitive and patriotic, which had to do with how to fast track government development initiatives and to ensure transparent governance.
In his remarks, Raymond Linga, the ministry’s deputy director, Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) urged the team members to put in their best because much was expected of them.
Mr Linga explained that the inauguration was sequel to signing the ministerial performance bond, adding that the bond was between Mr Tinubu, the ministers and the permanent secretaries.
