A former chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Wale Adegbite, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s government for suspending the expatriate employment levy.

Mr Adegbite gave the commendation in an interview on Monday in Ota, Ogun.

The federal government suspended the expatriate employment levy (EEL) it introduced on February 28, a week after it was launched.

The EEL was introduced to close wage gaps between expatriates and the Nigerian labour force.

“It is a welcome development as Manufacturers have been inundated with increasing costs of production. However, the suspension of this policy would surely reduce the challenges confronting manufacturers daily,” he said.

According to him, most expatriates in Nigeria were in the country because of skills they possess which Nigerians do not have.

The former MAN chairman appealed to the government to further make emphatic efforts to create a more enabling environment for manufacturers to survive and thrive.
