Atiku, Orji Kalu mourn Olubadan

A former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, mourned the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olalekan Balogun, describing him as a patriot and strategic thinker.
Mr Abubakar, in a statement by his media office in Abuja, also described the late Balogun as a long-standing friend and a great patriot.
He said the late traditional leader was a socialist as a politician, and even when he ascended the throne, did not betray his beliefs in putting the interests of the people first.
“The deceased Olubadan will be sorely missed for his wisdom and strategic thinking,” he said.
Mr Abubakar, declaring his solidarity with the people of Ibadan at the difficult time, prayed for the Ali-Iwo family of the late Olubadan to find the fortitude to bear the loss of their patriarch.
He also prayed for the Almighty God to forgive the shortcomings of the late traditional ruler and accept his soul.
A former Abia governor, Orji Kalu, also commiserated with the government and people of Oyo state in a statement on Friday, in Abakaliki.
The lawmaker acknowledged the robust contributions of the late traditional ruler to the social, economic and political development of Ibadan, Oyo state and Nigeria.
“I urge leaders to emulate the exemplary qualities of the late nationalist who was passionate about the unity and progress of Nigeria.
“He was a well-respected traditional ruler owing to his selflessness, patriotism, humility, and commitment to community service.
“The late Olubadan will be forever remembered for leaving behind worthy legacies for his family to uphold,” he stated.
Mr Kalu described the traditional ruler’s demise as a huge loss to the nation and prayed God to grant him eternal rest.
